Where are we?

Bankhouse care home is located in the heart of the village of Lesmahagow on the main high street. The home is only seven miles from Lanark with easy access to Clyde Valley, junction nine of the M74 and public transport for Lanark, Motherwell and local hospitals. Bankhouse is near MHA’s Auchlochan Garden Village, a 50 acre retirement village just three miles from the home. Trips to the bistro and beautiful grounds are a welcome treat during the warmer months.

Activities and events

Our secure gardens and courtyard are lovely areas to relax in and enjoy the fresh air. We have our own salon, where residents can enjoy a spot of pampering with the hairdresser who comes weekly. We also have a dedicated chaplain at Bankhouse.

We have a schedule of optional events and activities, helping residents to explore their interests and discover new ones. Along with animal visits, armchair exercises, baking, arts and crafts, bingo, quizzes, bible studies and church services, we also enjoy frequent themed days and events. We regularly invite local singers and musicians in to entertain and we have our own minibus for regular trips out.

Award winning music therapy

We are committed to providing alternative therapies such as music therapy to help alleviate isolation and the symptoms for those living with dementia. Our trained therapist is funded by charitable donations. The therapist interacts directly with residents through live music therapy sessions. This includes singing, playing simple percussion instruments or responding to musical cues in a one-to-one or group setting. Take a look at our video to find out more about this life changing therapy.

Chaplaincy and pastoral support

We are proud to be supported by a dedicated Chaplain who offers pastoral support to all, whatever their beliefs. The chaplain provides a listening presence, companionship and one-to-one pastoral support for all residents, their friends and relatives, and staff members - irrespective of their beliefs - and organise worship for those who wish to participate. Where appropriate, residents are encouraged to maintain links with local faith communities.

Seize the day – unique and memorable opportunities

Funded through charitable support, every MHA care home also prides itself in being able to offer unique and memorable opportunities and activities for residents to quite literally help them 'seize the day'.

Privacy and independence, friendship and support - 24 hours a day

We offer care and comfort, compassion and friendship. At the heart of all we offer is our assurance that you will be treated with the respect and dignity that we all deserve, and if you need anything at all, we’re here to help, 24 hours a day.

Whether in the privacy of your own room or relaxing in the company of your friends and neighbours, we will support you to spend your time doing the things you enjoy. Let us know if it’s music, a favourite newspaper, exercise or a spot of pampering at the salon. Landscaped gardens invite you to appreciate the fresh air, or tend the plants, if you wish. There’s a wide range of social events, so you never need to feel bored or lonely.

We have the latest safety and security design features so you can live life to the full with peace of mind.

Your room

We encourage our residents to furnish their own rooms as they wish. This could be as simple as hanging a couple of their favourite pictures on the wall, but they’re also welcome to bring their own comfy chair, or anything that makes them feel at home. The most important thing is for everyone to feel comfortable, happy and settled. All of our bedrooms have a minimum of an en suite lavatory and wash basin, and most of the en-suites are wet rooms. Some of our rooms enjoy lovely garden views.

We have a call system which can be operated by a hand control or a pendant depending on personal preference. All floors are secured by keypad coding to ensure that residents are safe and secure at all times.

Nursing care

24-hour nursing care, tailored for individual needs. We provide round the clock specialist nursing care for those with medical needs, whether that’s a long-term illness or disability. Medical and other forms of specialist support are delivered with friendly expertise by our highly skilled team of nursing professionals.

As you’d expect from our wonderfully compassionate team, nursing care is wholly person-centred to meet the requirements of each individual with respect and dignity at all times.

Food and drink

Meal times are a special part of the day for you to savour tasty food, freshly cooked by our chef to suit you and any dietary needs. And, of course refreshments are available throughout the day for you and your visitors, who are welcome at any time.

"Friendly and lovely homely place, clean and well looked after. Food is lovely and care is fantastic. I am very happy with my papa's care."

Our commitment to your wellbeing

Our highly-trained, dedicated members of staff will always be on hand to provide your care and support in the way that best suits you, in the comfort of your own room with en suite facilities.

We choose the people who work with us very carefully. They need to share our values and respect people, their life experience and personal choices.

We take pride in the cleanliness and maintenance of your home and provide a thorough and friendly cleaning service. Your personal washing will be carefully laundered and returned to you, clean and fresh.
